Plovdiv is the second largest city in Bulgaria. Plovdiv is a city of 338,153 people, representing about 5% of the population. Population of agglomeration according to the last census was just over 570,000 people. It is the administrative center of Plovdiv, Municipality Plovdiv Municipality Maritsa Municipality Rodopi.
Located in the western part of the Bulgarian part of Thrace, on both banks of the Maritsa River. Situated 15 km north of the Rhodope mountains and 50 km south of Stara Planina. The town is built at the foot of seven syenite hills, so often called "city of seven hills" or "City of Seven Hills."
Plovdiv hosted numerous economic and cultural events, including International
Fair, International theater festival "Scene of the Crossroads", the TV Festival "Golden Chest" and others. The city preserved many monuments of antiquity, including the Amphitheatre, the Roman Odeon, the Agora (Roman Forum), the Roman stadium, late ancient building "Eirene" and others. In the 12th century BC prehistoric settlement on the hill of the guards (sky Tepe) grew to the Thracian city Evmolpia, which is one of the first cities in Southeast Europe. The remains of it can be seen today.
